– I love to race and when my team Olsbergs MSE offered me an opportunity to run SuperCar Lites with Global Rallycross in Las Vegas, the choice was easy. It gives us a challenge up to the World Cup finals in Argentina in three weeks, where the goal is to ensure a fight for podiums in both team and driver championship, said Bakkerud with a big smile.

Bakkerud will run in SuperCar Lites, which is the class below SuperCars that he has run in the FIA World Rallycross Championship this season. The class is being developed by Bakkeruds team Olsbergs MSE, and the car has many of the same features as a regular SuperCar: They are four-wheel drive, and have similar braking and suspension, but is built on a tubular frame, and therefore a bit smaller in size. The big difference is the engine that has 320 horsepower. Usually, Bakkerud has 600 wild horses under the hood, but is clear that this still is both fun and challenging for him:

– In this class, all cars are 100% equal, and with less power there is absolutely no room for making mistakes if you want to be in front. I’ve been around the Lites during all this season and was the spotter for Nelson Piquet Jr. in Lites at Barbados and X-Games.
I also tested the car during last years race in Las Vegas, and enjoyed that very much!

I am very grateful that team manager Andreas Eriksson and OMSE gave me the opportunity to drive a race in this class. I have motorsport in the blood, and say never no to an opportunity to race! I think this race, in the Lites car, will give me experience to become a better rallycross driver.

Bakkerud with his 23 years, is almost an “oldboy” at the starting grid this weekend.

– I think SuperCar Lites is the future for new talents that want to develop to one day become a world champion in the main class SuperCar. The Lites will give the necessary recruitment we need to make rallycross become major globally.

In mind, Bakkerud is still focused on goal for this season, the WorldRX finals in San Luis, Argentina 29 and 30 November. The team Olsbergs MSE is four points behind the lead in the team championship, and Bakkerud is only nine points behind third place in the driver’s championship.

– To keep up with the good driving feeling after the victory in the last round in Turkey is important. A good result in the WorldRX finals in Argentina is the goal, and also why I run this race in Las Vegas, ended Bakkerud.
