In the fourth episode of “We are #AndreasBakkerud”, we get to meet those who stand closest to Andreas, his family. -They are truly the base of my career, and also the most prominent reason why I‘ve made it to the top of the rallycross circus. They gave me the inspiration to start with motorsport at a young age and they’ve supported me in every possible way, says Andreas.
The Bakkerud family is still an integral part of his career and they contribute in various areas.
-We have a board of directors in my company Andreas Bakkerud AS, where both dad Åge and my uncle Tommy are members, and my mom Ann-Kristin is the chairman. It definitely provides a sense of security to know that they can join me in the major decisions, says Andreas.
Andreas basically got into the world of motorsport when he was born, and visited his first race when he was only a few weeks old. Both his dad and uncle drove rallycross and the little family travelled all across the nation during the season. When Andreas was only 8 years he started his career in karting.
-My dad drove me to every practice and every race for the first years of my career, and he laid down a huge effort so we could compete basically every weekend.
– When I started karting my father’s career was partly put on hold, all though my uncle was still active at a national level. He was clearly one of my main inspirations, which also lead to the fact that I chose to drive rallycross as well, back in 2008. When we moved to the international rallycross scene in 2010, Tommy ended his own career and quickly became one of the important contributors in that first season, says Andreas.
It’s not only inspiration, help and drivinglessons Andreas has received from his father and uncle.
He has also inherited several sponsorship deals: -Especially from Uncle Tommy came many good partners. “Dekk & Felg” is one of few sponsors that have supported the Bakkerud family for over 25 years. Overall it’s been a considerable amount of money they have contributed and we are of course eternally grateful.
Andreas’ mom, Ann-Kristin is currently the accountant for Andreas Bakkerud AS, and in addition she has coordinated several of the #BakkerudBLUE supporter tours. Andreas call her “the brake” and describes her as the one who has managed to keep the speed down a little.
-I can honestly say that I wouldn’t have been where I am today if it hadn’t been for her – or my dad and uncle. The guys are “yes men”, and my mum function as a “brake”. Together we complement each other perfectly.
A common trait that the entire Bakkerud family share is a “crazy commitment”. -I’ve seen videoes of mom and uncle when they watch me drive, and it truly shows a vide range of emotions. For me that’s just what rallycross is about, and it shows that they love the sport as much as I do.
